Date Released: June 11, 2020

Reason for Stranding

Cold- Stun

Patient History

When cold fronts move into the area, the water temperature can suddenly drop and cause the turtles to go into shock. El Tigre is one of 16 turtles that stranded due to the cold weather. Volunteers found El Tigre wedged in the rocks at the Boca Chica jetties.

Fun Fact: This is not El Tigre’s first visit to our hospital! This turtle was found stuck in the rocks at the Isla Blanca jetties on June 24th and was released July 7th.

March 2020- *continuing to get the same treatment as last month* No longer receiving any injectable medications. El Tigre arrived at our hospital with several deep, severe wounds. The wounds are healing well. Twice weekly, this turtle gets cold laser therapy (to promote wound healing), debridement (gently cleaning of the wounds), and topical medications such as Silver Sulfadiazine cream or honey.
