Released Sea Turtle Patients

The Rehabilitation Journey

Since 1977, Sea Turtle, Inc. has been committed to rehabilitating sick and injured sea turtles. We treat over 100 sea turtles each year for various issues, including but not limited to fibropapillomatosis (FP), entanglement, hook ingestion, boat strikes, impactions, predator attacks, and mass cold stranding events. Every one of our patients receives a physical exam, comprehensive x-rays and blood work, and a specific treatment plan based on the cause of stranding. From rescue to release, our dedicated rehab staff monitors every step of the way.

Our veterinary staff releases our patients at different locations, based upon the turtle species. Green sea turtles are usually released via a sunset cruise/dolphin watch boat trip in the Laguna Madre Bay here on South Padre Island, Texas. Loggerheads are typically released on the Gulf side of Isla Blanca Park. Kemp’s ridleys and hawksbills are taken on private, off-shore releases. Every public release will be announced on our social media pages.

In March of 2025, we opened our new hospital. Not only is this the world’s largest fully-enclosed sea turtle hospital, but it is also a place where anyone can come and see the amazing work that our staff do every day. With viewing windows that look in on our food preparation area, clinic, CT scanner room, and more, you can immerse yourself in the world of sea turtle conservation here at Sea Turtle, Inc.
